Grant County Local Emergency Planning Committee

Minutes

 

Secretary Vivian Button called the meeting to order at 12:00 Noon with 6 members present.  (Jerry Deckert, Frank Goldsby, Roger Gardner, Richard Everett, Sharon Phelps and Vivian Button)

 

Jerry Jo Deckert made a motion to accept the minutes to the last meeting as read.  Motion Seconded by Frank Goldsby.   Motion carried.

 

Don has returned the Mitigation Plan update paperwork. As soon as we receive information from Efm Consulting we will set up meeting to work on the update.

Roger Gardner with Pioneer Communication reminded the committee about the Health Fair and Annual meeting this Saturday March 20th.  Jerry Deckert stated EMS would be at the Health Fair testing Blood Sugars and taking Blood Pressures.

 

We have received Tier II's from 28 companies. They have been put in a book at Emergency Management.  

 

Emergency Management has received notification that we will be receiving a $6,000 Citizen Corp grant.  A CERT class with five people has been completed.  We are talking about having another class the end of July and first of August after the Grant County Free Fair.

 

Seventy-eight people attended the National Weather Service Strom Identification and Spotter Training on March 9th.  They stated it could be an unusual season with cooler and wetter weather and the potential for more severe weather with the main threat being hail.

 

We will be setting up another COOP Training (Continuity of Operations).  The consensus of the committee was Wednesday would be the best day to have the class. Every county Department need someone training to do the up keep to their COOP Plan. The State has an agreement with the company providing the training and the web site to all of the counties in the state.  They do not have an agreement for the cities.

 

Upcoming trainings: Emergency Management Support Association of Kansas Conference on  March 31 and April 1 in  Russell, in Liberal on March 25 and 26 FAD training thru the Extension office "Strengthening Community Agro security plans", G908 Joint Information System/Joint Information Centers in Satanta on April 20-22, SART Training- Companion animal decon technique-March 21 Russell, G400 class in Lakin, Kansas March 23-24, and G408 Homeland Security Planning Course for Local Governments in Wichita  on April 27-28.

 

The Southwest Kansas Regional Emergency Planning Council have finished up the 2007 funding, and is working on 08 and 09 projects and  met on March 3rd to develop 2010 projects

 

Richard Everett talked about the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) website and asked everyone to get on and make a comment about allowing the Hospitals to use their Ham Radio Systems during exercise drills and once a month to make sure things are working and practice how to use the Ham radios. Richard also talked about the Health Department radios.

 

Sharon Phelps stated that 1/3 of the county population has been vaccinated against H1N1.  They will be at the Health Fair vaccinating for H1N1.

 

Jerry Jo Deckert also stated 4 volunteers from the Fire Department went to a Fire Training school in Topeka last weekend.  Several EMS personnel will be attending the Kansas Emergency Medical Technician Association Conference in Great Bend the weekend of March 20.  They are also finishing up the CPR classes for the county.  50 people should be training or recertified when finished.

 

The next meeting date will be April 15, 2010 at 12:00 Noon.

 

Motion to adjourn was made by Jerry Jo Deckert and seconded by Roger Gardner. Motion passed.
