The Grant County Commissioners met in regular
session at 9:00 a.m. with all members and the County Clerk present.
The monthly department head meeting was held
with the following in attendance: Rita Gee, Treasurer; Nancy Ramski, Civic
Center Building and Grounds Manager; Sherry Thompson, Health Department
Administrator; Jerry Jo Deckert, EMS Director; Mary K. Sullivan, Register of
Deeds; Todd Hampton, City/County Building Official; John Crosby, Fire Chief;
David Wagner, Transfer Station Manager; Lance Babcock, Sheriff; Tom Kramer,
Road Department Administrator; and Don Button, Emergency Management
Coordinator.
Marty Long made the motion to approve the
minutes of the March 21, 2006 meeting and the claims against the various funds
of the county. Carl Higgs seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Tom Kramer, Road Department Administrator,
presented quotes for sealing sand. Carder, Inc. bid $11.20/ton for CM-C; Klotz
Sand & Asphalt Paving Co. bid $14.00/ton for CM-C and $3.00/ton for CM-B;
Eastern Colorado Aggregate bid $13.50/ton for CM-C and $15.00/ton for CM-B; and
Huber Sand Co. bid $17.00/ton for CM-C and $2.75/ton for CM-B. Carl Higgs made
the motion to accept the bid from Klotz Sand & Asphalt Paving Co. of Lakin
for $14.00/ton for CM-C and $3.00/ton for CM-B. Marty Long seconded the motion
and it passed unanimously. In other business Mr. Kramer gave an update on the
5-year plan. He explained that a public hearing would be advertised for the
next commissioner meeting during public forum time to give people a chance to
provide input about the plan. The commissioners asked Mr. Kramer to get prices
for a chemical storage trailer box so noxious weed chemicals can be moved from
the Transfer Station. Discussion was held on asphalt needs for this year. The
commissioners authorized Mr. Kramer to solicit bids for asphalt.
Lance Babcock, Sheriff, gave an update on his
department. He reported that the hospital worked with him in resolving charges
on a former inmate. Sheriff Babcock reported that their 1998 ¾ ton pickup needs
a new motor. The commissioners authorized him to get a motor for the pickup.
The commissioners approved taking sealed bids for the 1998 Grand Prix that is
used by the civil process server.
Martin Hernandez, county employee, met with the
commissioners to discuss personnel matters.
Cary Binney, local citizen, requested permission
to have the National Day of Prayer on the courthouse steps May 4. The
commissioners approved his request.
Gene Pflughoft and Rod Kreie, Economic
Development, gave an update on economic development. They said they have set
some time lines regarding the proposed ethanol plant.
Marty Long made the motion to recess into
executive session for 1 hour to discuss personnel matters. Carl Higgs seconded
the motion and it passed unanimously. After 1 hour the meeting continued in
open session.
The commissioners adjourned at 3:30 p.m. to meet
again in regular session on April 18, 2006.
