The Board of County Commissioners met as a board
of canvassers to review the votes cast in the General City/School Election held
on April 3, 2007. Chairman Marty Long, Commissioner Carl Higgs and County
Clerk Linda McHenry were present.
No discrepancies were found in the tallies made
at the original canvas done election night. After processing provisional
ballots, the final totals did not change the outcome of any race. Election
results are recorded in the Abstract of Votes Cast Journal in the office of the
county clerk.
In other business, Kevin Gray was called and
came in to talk about the yard and sprinkler bid which was approved at the
April 3, 2007 commissioner meeting. Discussion was held on changing the scope
of the work to be done and the need to re-bid the tearing out of the courthouse
yard if the changes are done. The commissioners said they feel that if we are
going to tear out the yard, replacement of the dying elm trees should be
considered. Mr. Gray agreed that this should be done. It was agreed that Gray’s
Yard Service will retain the irrigation system job and new specifications will
be done for removal and replacement of yard and trees at the courthouse. Mr.
Gray will help with the specifications. If he is awarded the bid, there will be
no charge for the specs. If he does not receive the bid, the commissioners
agreed to pay him $500 for the specifications.
The commissioners adjourned to meet again in
regular session on April 17, 2007.
